Falcons Men Fly to 13th Straight Homecoming Win
February 1, 2003

SEATTLE (Feb. 1) - Chris Cohen scored six of his career-high 12 points during a decisive first period run as Seattle Pacific University overpowered Northwest Nazarene 95-58 for its 13th straight homecoming game victory Saturday before the season's largest crowd at Brougham Pavilion.

Yusef Aziz (Sr., 6-4, Seattle, Wa./Foster) also scored for the Falcons (7-2, 11-7), who won for the fifth time in six games and will remain at least second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings. They trail Humboldt State by one game and the Lumberjacks play at Alaska Fairbanks later Saturday night.

Seattle Pacific continued its hot shooting streak, hitting at least 50 percent from the field for the sixth game in a row. It made 68 percent in the first half and 59 percent (38-64) overall, including 13-22 three-pointers.

The Crusaders (1-8, 3-14), who have lost seven straight meetings with SPU, remained close for the first 15 minutes, thanks to an effective zone defense and timely three-point shooting.

But in the final five minutes of the opening period Seattle's Pacific's defense tightened and enabled the Falcons' running game to take control. Ignited by back-to-back treys from Tony Binetti (Fr., 6-0, Enumclaw, Wa.) and Jesse Keely (Sr., 6-7, Fircrest, Wa./Bellarmine), they reeled off 18 unanswered points for a 50-31 lead. Binetti, who later tossed in another three-pointer, and Cohen (Jr., 6-8, St. Helens, Or.) each scored six points during the spree.

Another 16-2 outburst early in the second half blew open the contest, 70-39, and the gap eventually widened to 40 points.

Cohen hit 5-8 shots and also had five rebounds in 14 minutes. Daniel Sandrin, Jason Chivers and Jordan Lee each added 10 points. Binetti scored all nine of his points on treys in the first half and also dished out eight assists.

Cam Wattling topped NNU with 12 points. The Crusaders, winless on the road this season, were out-rebounded 37-27 and shot just 41 percent (20-49).

The Falcons go on the road for the next three games, beginning Saturday night at Western Washington .
