NAMAP, Id. (Jan. 25) -- Nathanael Castle and
Sarah Kraybill, both of Seattle Pacific University, each took
third in their respective races at the Western Indoor Classic
Saturday.
Castle (Sr., Gooding, Id.) held second place
for much of the men's mile before dropping to third on the home
stretch and finishing in 4 minutes, 17.11 seconds?almost two
seconds off his time from the the previous week. Stanford's Evan
Fox and Steven Dewitt ran 1-2, with Fox winning in 4:14.37.
Kraybill (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Ballard), who had
met an NCAA Division II provisional standard in her first outing,
was timed in 2:14.58. Erin Belger and Lache Bailey of California
ran to first and second, respectively. Belger's time was 2:13.52.
It was the Falcons' second track & field
meet of the indoor season and it attracted an impressive field.
World record-holder Stacy Dragila won the pole vault with a final
clearance of 15 feet, 1 inch. Ally Studer (Jr., Redmond,
Wa./Redmond) finished eighth with a final height of 11-6 1/4.
Dragila had also entered Friday's pentathlon,
taking third. Linda Blake (Fr., Richland, Wa.) was fourth with
3239 points. Chris Randolph (Fr., Denver, Co./Denver Christian)
was sixth in the men's pentathlon with 3145.
Among the other SPU marks from Saturday was
Paul Mach's (Jr., Seattle, Wa./King's) fifth-place in the 800
(1:57.32) and the men's 1600 relay which was also fifth, finishing
in 3:27.29.
Seattle Pacific resumes competition Saturday at
the Husky Invitational.
