ELLENSBURG, Wa. (Jan. 18)Carli Smith
scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds as NCAA Division
II second-ranked Seattle Pacific University won its school record
14th straight womens basketball game, beating Great
Northwest Athletic Conference foe Central Washington 63-60
Saturday night at Nicholson Pavilion.
The 14 consecutive wins breaks the old record
of 13, previously owned by the 96-97 squad that
advanced as far as the NCAA West Region Final.
Seattle Pacific (5-0, 14-0) had four players in
double figures. Smith (Fr., Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian) was
eight for nine from the charity stripe and was joined in double
digits by teammates Kerie Hughes (Sr., Mount Vernon, Wa.),
Stephanie Urrutia (Sr., Sunnyside, Wa.) and Michelle Beaumont
(So., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) who netted 12, 12 and 10 points
respectively.
Central trailed most of the game, its last lead
was with 7:01 to play in the first half. SPU finished with a 35-32
edge on the boards and hit just over 41 percent of its shots.
Alayna Vincents 20 points paced the
Wildcats (2-3, 7-5).
Seattle Pacific faces off with longtime foe
Western Washington in Bellingham on Thursday night (Jan. 23). Tip
off is scheduled for 7:00PM.
