SEATTLE (Jan. 18) -- Sarah Kraybill and Ally
Studer each surpassed NCAA Division II track & field
provisional qualifying standards, in the 800 meters and pole
vault, respectively, and broke Seattle Pacific University records
in the process at the Husky Indoor Preview Saturday at the Dempsey
Indoor.
The Falcons also got new records from Danielle
Ayers-Stamper (Fr., LaCrosse, Wa.) in the 60-meter hurdles,
Nathanael Castle (Sr., Gooding, Id.) in the mile and Brian Hunter
(So., Carnation, Wa./Cedarcrest) in the 60 hurdles. The meet, the
largest in state history, attracted 2,500 spectators.
Studer (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Redmond) finished
first in the women's pole with a final clearance of 11 feet, 11
3/4 inches. She defeated Sandy Erickson by virtue of fewer misses.
Studer's mark improved her own SPU record, set last year, by 2
inches.
In the 800 meters, Kraybill (Sr., Seattle,
Wa./Ballard) ran sixth but in 2 minutes, 12.54 seconds. Rachel
Ross held the old mark at 2:13.50. Kraybill was the beneficiary of
a fast pace, set by Pacific Sport's Diane Cummins, who became the
world leader for the new year with a winning time of 2:03.05.
Chantee Earl was runner-up in 2:03.88.
Ayers-Stamper ran her best hurdles time of 9.11
seconds in the prelims and later took fourth. She was also fourth
in the long jump. Castle bettered his own mile record by more than
2 seconds, taking 13th in 4:15.31. Hunter's hurdle time was 7.33.
The next indoor meet for Seattle Pacific is
this Friday and Saturday in Boise.
