SEATTLE, Wa. (Jan. 18)Daniel Sandrin
scored a team high 16 points to lead four Falcons in double
figures as Seattle Pacific University won its second game in a
row, beating Great Northwest Athletic Conference first place
Alaska Fairbanks 95-71, Saturday night in Brougham Pavilion.
Sandrin scored eight of his points in the first
half and on the night, was five of seven shooting including a
perfect two for two from beyond the three-point arc. Teammate
Yusef Aziz (Sr., Seattle, Wa) matched Sandrins eight first
half points and finished the contest with 14 points and a team
high nine rebounds.
Maurice Cato (Sr., Fairfield, Ca.) and Adam
Harris (Sr., Gig Harbor, Wa.) netted 14 and 12 points
respectively. Harris notched a game high six assists.
The Falcons (4-1, 8-6) led nearly the entire
contest and with 7:48 to play in the first half, went on a 9-0 run
to put them up 43-25 at the 4 minute mark. SPU went into the
locker room with a 50-30 advantage at half time.
Seattle Pacific maintained its 20-point lead
virtually the rest of the game. Fairbanks got no closer than 15.
Jason Williams paced the Nanooks with 18 points
and 12 rebounds, both game highs. Steve Towne pitched in 15.
SPU connected on nearly 55 percent (36 of 67)
of their shots on the night including eight of 14 treys while
Alaska Fairbanks was a dismal six of 25 from beyond the
three-point arc and was 27 of 63 overall (43.5 percent).
The Falcons hit the road for their next two
contests, playing Thursday night (Jan. 23) at Western Oregon and
Saturday (Jan. 25) at Humboldt State. The Lumberjacks are ranked
first in the West Region. Tip off is scheduled for 7PM both
nights.
