SEATTLE (Jan. 4) - Spencer Allred scored 22
points and hauled down nine rebounds to lead a balanced attack as
Montana's Rocky Mountain College handed Seattle Pacific University
its worst home loss in four years, 83-67 in the final game of the
Oak Harbor Freight Lines Holiday Classic Saturday night at
Brougham Pavilion.
Marshaun Jourdan scored 17 of his 19 points in
the second half for the Billings team, which pulled away in the
final five minutes. Jake Stuart had 17 points and five assists for
the Battlin' Bears (12-4) who won their 10th in the last 11 games.
It was the Falcons' (6-5) second home loss of
the season and the fourth overall in the last five games. Yusef
Aziz (Sr., 6-4, Seattle, Wa./Foster) topped SPU with 19 points
while Jesse Keely (Sr., 6-7, Fircrest, Wa./Bellarmine) added 12.
Allred and Aziz made the all-tournament team
along with Nick Echevestre of UC Santa Cruz and Seattle
University's Darnell Lyons and Andy Bloom.
The Battlin' Bears led virtually the entire
first period, going up by as many as seven points before the
Falcons whittled the margin to 38-36 by intermission. SPU
committed nine first-half turnovers and shot only 34 percent in
the second half.
Rocky Mountain held a slim, 63-61 lead with
seven minutes to go before jourdan ignited a 12-2 run for a 75-63
advantage with 3:30 left. Seattle Pacific got no closer than 10
the rest of the way.
Allred scored 13 of his points in the first
half. Five of his boards were off the offensive glass and he also
kicked out four assists. The Bears claimed the rebound battle,
42-33 and they shot 48 percent (29-60) from the floor.
It was the Falcons' largest defeat at the
pavilion since the 1998-99 season and an 18-point loss to Central
Washington.
SPU resumes Great Northwest Athletic Conference
play Saturday when it hosts Western Washington.
