Rocky Mountain Hands SPU Men Worst Home Loss in Four Years
January 4, 2003

SEATTLE (Jan. 4) - Spencer Allred scored 22 points and hauled down nine rebounds to lead a balanced attack as Montana's Rocky Mountain College handed Seattle Pacific University its worst home loss in four years, 83-67 in the final game of the Oak Harbor Freight Lines Holiday Classic Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Marshaun Jourdan scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half for the Billings team, which pulled away in the final five minutes. Jake Stuart had 17 points and five assists for the Battlin' Bears (12-4) who won their 10th in the last 11 games.

It was the Falcons' (6-5) second home loss of the season and the fourth overall in the last five games. Yusef Aziz (Sr., 6-4, Seattle, Wa./Foster) topped SPU with 19 points while Jesse Keely (Sr., 6-7, Fircrest, Wa./Bellarmine) added 12.

Allred and Aziz made the all-tournament team along with Nick Echevestre of UC Santa Cruz and Seattle University's Darnell Lyons and Andy Bloom.

The Battlin' Bears led virtually the entire first period, going up by as many as seven points before the Falcons whittled the margin to 38-36 by intermission. SPU committed nine first-half turnovers and shot only 34 percent in the second half.

Rocky Mountain held a slim, 63-61 lead with seven minutes to go before jourdan ignited a 12-2 run for a 75-63 advantage with 3:30 left. Seattle Pacific got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Allred scored 13 of his points in the first half. Five of his boards were off the offensive glass and he also kicked out four assists. The Bears claimed the rebound battle, 42-33 and they shot 48 percent (29-60) from the floor.

It was the Falcons' largest defeat at the pavilion since the 1998-99 season and an 18-point loss to Central Washington.

SPU resumes Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Saturday when it hosts Western Washington.
