MONMOUTH, ORE. (Dec. 7) -- Kelley Berglund
(Sr., 6-3, Port Angeles, Wa./Washington State) recorded her third
double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead
the Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team past
Western Oregon 62-48 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference
matchup at the P.E. Building in Monmouth, Ore.
The Falcons, currently ranked No. 6 in the
WBCA/USA Today national poll, set a new program record for best
start at 7-0 overall.
The Falcons (2-0, 7-0) held the Wolves (0-2,
1-4) to just 18 points in the first half to build a 25-point lead
heading into half, an advantage they maintained for the remainder
of the contest. Seattle Pacific forced 28 Western Oregon turnovers
and held their opponents to 19-of-51 shooting in the game.
Berglund shot seven-for-eight from the charity
stripe and reeled in seven offensive rebounds. As a team, the
Falcons shot just 36 percent, but converted 16-of-20 attempts from
the free-throw line.
Stephanie Urrutia (Sr., 5-9, Sunnyside,
Wa./Sunnyside) was the only other Seattle Pacific player in
double-figures, finishing with 10 points. Kristin Poe (Jr., 5-8,
Enumclaw, Wa./Enumclaw) finished with a season-high 10 rebounds.
The Falcons are off until Dec. 20 when they
face Lewis-Clark State.
