LACEY, Wash. (Dec. 7) -- Yusef Aziz scored 13
of his 21 points in the second half as Seattle Pacific University
pulled away for a 79-56 win over Saint Martin's in a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Saint
Martin's Pavilion Saturday night.
Jason Chivers added 10 points for the Falcons
(2-0, 5-1), who held the Saints (0-2, 0-7) to just 22 percent
shooting and 23 points in the second half. For the second year in
a row Seattle Pacific swept its GNAC openers, both on the road.
Aziz (Sr., 6-4, Seattle, Wa./Foster),
rebounding from a bout with the flu and just eight points at
Central Washington Thursday, hit all five of his field goals after
intermission, including a pair of three-pointers. He finished 8-11
from the field and also had five rebounds.
Seattle Pacific beat SMC for the eighth time in
a row and 19th in the last 20 meetings. It pulled away from a
37-33 at the half, outscoring the Saints 42-23 in the final
period. SPU shot 58 percent (15-26) in the second half and 53
percent (31-56) for the game. The Falcons committed a season-low
nine turnovers and finished with a 27-22 edge on the boards.
Garland Perry led Saint Martin's with 14
points, all but two coming in the first half. Perry shot just 1-4
in the second half.
Adam Harris (Sr., 6-0, Fox Island, Wa./Gig
Harbor) and Daniel Sandrin (Sr., 6-7, Bothell, Wa./Bothell) each
contributed nine points for SPU.
SPU now takes a break from GNAC play until Jan.
11. The Falcons next play Dec. 16 against Missouri Western at the
River City Shootout in San Antonio.
