Aziz, Keely Pace Falcons in Men's Basketball Exhibition Opener
November 8, 2002

SEATTLE (Nov. 8) -- Yusef Aziz poured in 22 points and Jesse Keely added 16 as Seattle Pacific University opened preseason play with a 108-77 exhibition win over the Northwest All-Stars Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons, playing under new head coach Jeff Hironaka, bolted to a 21-1 lead and, after the All-Stars pulled to within 8, put together an 18-7 run at the end of the half and were never threatened thereafter.

Two newcomers made impressive debuts for Seattle Pacific. Jason Chivers (So., Palmdale, Ca.), a 6-foot-8 transfer, scored 12 points and hauled down 13 rebounds and freshman point guard Tony Binetti (6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) came off the bench for 11 points, seven assists and four steals in 13 minutes.

Aziz (Sr., 6-4, Tukwila, Wa./Foster) scored 14 of his points in the first half. Keely (Sr., 6-7, Fircrest, Wa./Bellarmine) sank 8-11 field goals. Jordan Lee (So., 2, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian) had 11 points and Maurice Cato (Sr., 6-0, Fairfield, Ca.) 13.

Mike Ross topped the visitors with 13. Ex-SPU forward Reggie Paul finisehd with 11 points and 11 boards.

The Falcons shot 54 percent from the field (44-82) and out-rebounded the All-Stars 49-34.

SPU hosts The Son's Blue Angels next Friday night. The regular season begins Nov. 22 at home vs. Minnesota-Duluth in the first round of the Vitamilk Tip-Off Classic.
