SEATTLE (Nov. 7) - Midfielder Shannon Lovejoy
and Bobby Bruch of league champion Seattle Pacific University were
voted the women's soccer Great Northwest Athletic Conference
co-freshman and coach of the year, respectively, by a vote of the
coaches.
Forward Michelle Sanders (So., Centralia, Wa.)
joined Lovejoy (Fr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep) on the all-GNAC
first team. Sanders finished as the conference co-leader in
scoring with 30 points, scoring 11 goals and eight assists.
Lovejoy, who finished sixth with 25 points, shared freshman of the
year with Western Washington's Chela Gray.
Bruch, a 1988 graduate of Seattle Pacific, led
the Falcons (13-4-2) to the GNAC title in only the second year of
their program. SPU, which finished its regular-season with an
11-game unbeaten streak (10-0-1), winning the last nine in a row.
A year ago, SPU finished 8-10-1 in its inaugural season.
Lovejoy, Sanders, Seattle University midfielder
Tafara Pulse-the GNAC player of the year-and Humboldt State
forward Jenna Hunter were among four unanimous selections to the
all-conference team. Hunter, Sanders, Pulse, Mariel Chandler of
Western Oregon, and Nichole Sauvageau of Seattle University were
repeat choices.
Making the all-conference second team were two
more Falcon freshmen, midfielder Megan Lienhard (Fr., Everett,
Wa./Cascade) and forward Katy Nydam (Fr., Oak Harbor, Wa.).
Defender Nicole Ruiz (Jr., Federal Way, Wa./Federal Way) and
midfielder LeRin Farrison (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Mountain View)
received honorable mention. |
