SEATTLE (Oct. 31) -- Kathleen Monda (So.,
Woodinville, Wa./Washington State) recorded a team-high .286
hitting percentage and three blocks as the Seattle Pacific
University volleyball team fell to crosstown-rival Seattle
University 30-23, 30-24, 30- 18 in a Great Northwest Athletic
Conference matchup Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.
The occasion marks SU's first-ever victory over
SPU and the Falcons first back-to-back home defeats since 1997.
The Falcons (5-9, 6-15) recorded a .043 hitting
percentage and served up 10 errors, while the Redhawks (11-2,
21-3) hit a respectable .197, including .220 in the final game.
SPU did not record a service ace and no one was able to reach
double- figures in scoring. Sarah Sommerman and Megan Kaysinger
combined for 26 kills to lead the Redhawks.
The Falcons 34 kills is their lowest total
since opening their GNAC schedule on Sept. 14, while their attack
percentage equaled the lowest in conference play this season set
last Friday against Fairbanks. Monica Herrera (Jr., Lima,
Peru/Mercy College) failed to reach 10 or more kills tonight for
the first time since Sept. 14, breaking a 12-match streak.
SPU completes its regular season home schedule
Saturday with a match against Northwest Nazarene scheduled for 7
p.m. at Brougham Pavilion.
