FAIRBANKS, AK. (Oct. 25) -- Middle hitter
Monica Herrera (Jr., Lima, Peru/Mercy College) and Carri Colvin
(Sr., Vancouver, Wa./Prairie) combined for 25 kills as the Seattle
Pacific University volleyball team fell to Alaska-Fairbanks 30-17,
23-30, 30-27, 30-19 Friday night at the Patty Center in Fairbanks.
Herrera led the Falcons with 15 and Colvin added 10.
The Falcons (5-7, 6-13) were unable to break
the .100 hitting plateau in three of the four games, while the
Nanooks (7-4, 10-6) struggled, but managed to hit above .200 in
two games led by 17 kills from Mallory Bergstrom. Chelsey Myers
(Fr., Minden, Nv./Douglas) was the only Falcon hitter to reach the
.200 mark with eight kills on 21 attempts. SPU finished with a
.048 hitting percentage.
Katy Higgins (Jr., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond) led
the Falcons with seven blocks and
Andrea Pennington (Jr., Bellingham, Wa./Whatcom
CC) served up three aces to lead SPU. Colvin led the Falcons on
defense with 17 digs.
SPU completes the second leg of their visit to
Alaska with a match against Anchorage tomorrow night at 8 p.m.
PST.
