SEATTLE (Oct. 19) -- Carri Colvin (Sr.,
Vancouver, Wa./Prairie) slammed 17 kills and recorded a .217
hitting percentage as the Seattle Pacific University volleyball
team fell to Central Washington University 22-30, 30-20, 30-28,
30-26 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup Saturday
night at Brougham Pavilion.
The Falcons (5-6, 6-12) managed to get a game
up before the Wildcats (6-5, 8-10) offensive assault got red-hot
and rattled off three straight games to seal the victory. CWU
stole the match's momentum in the game three by overcoming a
narrow SPU lead at 27-26 and won four of the next five points. SPU
finished the match with a .188 hitting mark while CWU reached
.203.
The first game was a chess match with the two
teams exchanging points as they evaluated one another's game plan.
The Falcons trailed the Wildcats by a narrow margin before tying
the game at 19 and then finishing the game by wining 11 of the
last 14 points. Monica Herrera (Jr., Lima, Peru/Mercy College) and
Kathleen Monda (So., Woodinville, Wa./ Washington State) combined
for 10 of the Falcons 14 kills in the first game while Andrea
Detorre (Jr., Vancouver, Wa./Prairie) smacked two service aces.
The Falcons hitting percentage plummeted in
game two while the Wildcats began their surge late in the game and
extending it through the remainder of the match. In the second
game, SPU hit just .054 while the Wildcats recorded a .275 mark
behind six kills from Gita Burke.
SPU heads north to Alaska next week for a pair
of matches Friday and Saturday.
