SEATTLE, Wa. (Oct. 17)-Katy Nydam scored a pair
of goals to lift Seattle Pacific University over Grand Canyon 3-0
in a non-conference soccer match Thursday afternoon at Interbay
Stadium.
Nydam (Fr., Oak Harbor) headed in a left side
cross from the foot of teammate Megan Lienhard (Fr., Everett,
Wa./Cascade) to open up scoring in the match at 14:46. Jessica
Henson (So., Spokane, Wa./University) was also credited on the
assist. The Falcons went into the locker room at intermission with
a 1-0 advantage and at 57:04, freshman forward Nydam netted her
second goal of the match off a pass from Alison Teague (Fr.,
Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian).
At 69:46, Michelle Everson (Fr., Tacoma,
Wa./Stadium) scored on an eight-yard strike for the final margin
as LeRin Farrison (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Mountain View/Highline CC)
crossed the ball into the goal mouth from the right corner. Henson
trapped the Farrison cross and unselfishly passed the ball to the
left, on the ground, to Everson who put the ball into the Antelope
net from eight yards out.
Henson tallied a pair of assists on the night.
Goalkeepers Erin Pierce (Fr., Milwaukie,
Or./Rex Putnam) and Jennifer Hull (So., Eugene, Or./Sheldon)
combined for the shutout, and were forced to make just one save
between them. Grand Canyon keeper Jolene Gagnon made a pair of
saves.
Seattle Pacific outshot the Antelopes 11-4, and
was granted seven corner kicks to Grand Canyon's two.
The Falcons (8-4-2/4-3-0) are unbeaten in their
last six matches and have a chance to improve upon their standing
in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a win over
first-place Western Oregon (6-1-1/8-3-1) on Saturday afternoon.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3PM. There are three home games
