Falcon Volleyball Comeback Falls Short Against Western Oregon
October 12, 2002

SEATTLE (Oct. 12) -- Monica Herrera (Jr., Lima, Peru/ Mercy) and Carri Colvin (Sr., Vancouver, Wa./Praire) combined for 30 kills as the Seattle Pacific University volleyball team fell to Western Oregon 30-16, 30-28, 24-30, 30-28 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion. Western Oregon's victory snapped a five- match drought in GNAC play and brought the Falcons two-match win streak to a close.

The Falcons (4-5, 5-11) fell behind by two games to the Wolves (2-7, 2-15), but rallied to win the third game behind their best hitting performance of the night at .179. SPU appeared poised to force a two- game stalemate with a solid lead in game four before WOU went on an 8-0 run to take command late in the game and close out SPU.

Thirty-five attack errors and 114 digs by the Wolves kept the Falcons hitting percentage for the match at just .074 while WOU managed a .145 mark and a combined .221 in the first two games. The Wolves recorded 67 kills behind four players in doublefigures and Kim Tower who slammed 20 on her own.

Libero Andrea Pennington (Jr., Bellingham, Wa./ Whatcom) led the Falcons on defense with a season-high 28 kills, while Kathleen Monda (So., Woodinville, Wa./Washington State) led SPU at the net with seven block assists.

SPU continues its four-game homestand next weekend at Brougham Pavilion with matches on Friday and Saturday. The Falcons host Saint Martin's on Friday and Central Washington on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
