SEATTLE, Wa. (Oct. 10)Shannon Lovejoy
booted the game-winning goal to the left post at 79:33, as Seattle
Pacific University downed Humboldt State 2-1, in a Great Northwest
Athletic Conference womens soccer game Thursday night at
Interbay Stadium.
Lovejoys strike (Fr., Seattle,
Wa./Seattle Prep.) was catalyzed by a left-side Jessica Henson
(So., Spokane, Wa./University) pass across the Lumberjack goal
mouth to LeRin Farrison (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Mountain View/Highline
CC). Farrison, who tallied a pair of assists on the night, crossed
the ball back across the goal on the ground to Lovejoy, who booted
the pass through traffic to the left post for the game-winner.
The victory over HSU makes Seattle Pacific
unbeaten in its last five matches and the Falcons avenged a loss
to the Lumberjacks earlier in the season in Arcata, 0-3.
Humboldt State struck first in the match as
Gabby Ahmadia put a free kick from the right side, 25 yards out,
to the upper-left of the Falcons net (16:33).
SPU went into the locker room at intermission
down one, but quickly equalized to begin the second half. At
46:16, Michelle Sanders (So., Centralia, Wa.) netted her
conference-leading seventh goal. The forward took a right-side
Farrison cross and headed it past HSU keeper Mariah Talbott into
the back of the Lumberjack net from six-yards out.
The Falcons out shot Humboldt State (6-6-1) 17
to five and goalies Jennifer Hull and Erin Pierce combined for two
saves on the night.
The victory over Humboldt improves the Falcons
season record to 7-4-2, and Seattle Pacific takes on Grand Canyon
at 4 oclock next Tuesday (Oct. 17) in the third of a
four-match home stand. Seattle Pacific finishes out the home stand
against Western Oregon on Oct. 22.
