SEATTLE (Oct. 7) - Brent Egbert and Jeremy
Bonner scored goals 28 seconds apart to break open Seattle Pacific
University's 3-0 win over Montana State Billings in a
non-conference men's soccer game at Interbay Stadium Monday night.
The Falcons (7-3-1) also got a goal from Jeremy
Yerkes (So., Gresham, Or.), his team-leading sixth of the season,
in extending their unbeaten string to four games going into
Saturday's Great Northwest Athletic Conference showdown with
Seattle University.
Dominating play but ahead only 1-0 after Yerkes
scored a penalty kick in the first half, Seattle Pacific peppered
Yellowjackets keeper Kevin Petriz with several crisp drives
between the 58th and 65th minutes before finally breaking through.
Yerkes found Egbert (Jr., Bellingham,
Wa./Sehome) unmarked in the goalmouth at 65:01 and Egbert quickly
beat Petriz from 6 yards for a 2-0 lead. Egbert nearly scored
again moments later, but Petriz saved his breakaway, leaving
Bonner (Fr., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) alone for the rebound at
65:29. It was Egbert's third goal and Bonner's first.
Yerkes scored the penalty in the 38th minute
after being fouled near the top of the box. He hit a firm shot
past Petriz to the right corner.
SPU finished with a 14-1 advantage in shots and
Petriz made six saves in all, including diving stops of Ross
Vaillancourt (Fr., Bedford, N.H.) early in the second half. James
Ward (So., Salem, Or.) easily handled the only Billings (4-8-0)
shot of the night to earn his third shutout.
Seattle Pacific, unbeaten (4-0) at home, plays
three of its next four on the road.
