Falcons Nearly Upset Dominguez Hills in Women's Soccer, Settle for 1-1 Tie
October 4, 2002

SEATTLE, Wa.-Megan Lienhard scored seven minutes into the match as Seattle Pacific University nearly upset the West Region's No. 5 team, Cal State Dominguez Hills 1-1, in a non-conference women's soccer match Friday night at Interbay Stadium.

Lienhard's (Fr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) score came via the foot of teammate LeRin Farrison (Sr., Seattle, Wa./Mountain View/Highline CC), off a right-side cross at 7:34. Lienhard finished the ball to the right corner of the Toro net from six yards out.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-2-3) equalized at 83:46 when forward Diane Garza shielded off an SPU defender near the 18-yard line and put a Kristen Walsh pass past Falcon goalie Jennifer Hull (So., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) to the back left post.

Seattle Pacific pummeled the Toros' net the duration of the match, out-shooting CSDH 16-6, but could not squeeze the golden goal out of Toro keeper Alba Garcia. Garcia was nearly flawless and finished the night with 10 saves. She played the entire match including overtime.

SPU keepers Hull and Erin Pierce (Fr., Milwaukie, Or./Rex Putnam) combined for three saves between them. Seattle Pacific was granted four corner kicks to Cal State Dominguez Hills' two.

The Falcons (4-4-2, 2-3-0) hop the van to Ellensburg for an afternoon match at Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Central Washington on Saturday (October 5). Kickoff is scheduled for 3 o'clock. SPU begins a four-match home-stand against Carroll College, Tuesday night.
