SPU Routs Northwest Nazarene to Remain Undefeated at Home
September 21, 2002

SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 21)-Megan Lienhard scored a goal and netted two assists to lead Seattle Pacific University in a 4-0 rout of Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponent Northwest Nazarene, in a women's soccer contest Saturday night at Interbay Stadium.

The Falcons (3-3-1) picked up their first conference victory and remain unbeaten at home (3-0) in 2002. Seattle Pacific has won eight of its last 10 contests at Interbay over the program's brief, two-year existence.

Lienhard's (Fr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) score from 16 yards out was a rocket off a right-side cross from teammate Sarah Melby (So., Mukilteo, Wa./Kamiak/Idaho). The goal was the fourth and final for the Falcons (80:19), but Lienhard snared her first assist of the match when teammate Jessica Henson (So., Spokane, Wa./University) fielded her cross from the left side of the field and poked the ball past Northwest Nazarene keeper Shauna Voss just over eight minutes into the game (8:14).

Shannon Lovejoy (Fr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep.) hit the Crusader net next for SPU, fielding a poorly cleared ball by the NNU defense and sending it to the left post at 30:38 for her team high fourth goal of the year. Just two minutes later at 32:54, Karen France (So., Woodland Park, Co./Palmer) was the beneficiary of another assist from Leinhard. The freshman crossed the ball toward the Crusaders' 18-yard line from the left corner and France won a race to the ball with Voss. Seattle Pacific went into the locker room at intermission with a 3-0 lead.

The Falcons peppered Northwest Nazarene's goalmouth with a school record 25 shots. The Crusaders rallied for just four. The previous high was 22, set in 2001, against Central Washington. SPU also notably tied the school record for corner kicks in a match (9).

Goalies Erin Pierce (Fr., Milwaukie, Or./Rex Putnam) and Jennifer Hull (So., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) combined for the Falcons' second shutout of the season.

Pierce and Hull saved two balls between them. Crusader keeper Voss was busy over the course of the match and saved 10 shots.

Seattle Pacific finishes out its three-game home stand with a match against GNAC conference favorite Seattle University (4-3-0) Wednesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 o'clock.
