LACEY, WA. (Sept. 21) -- Middle hitter Monica
Herrera (Jr., Lima, Peru/Mercy College) slammed a season-high 22
kills and Chelsey Myers (Fr., Minden, Nevada/Douglas HS) recorded
a team-high .387 attack percentage to lead Seattle Pacific
University to its first conference victory of the season against
Saint Martin's, 31-29, 30- 22, 22-30, 30-20, Saturday night at
Saint Martin's Pavilion in Lacey.
The Falcons (1-1, 2-8) jumped out to a hot
start against the Saints (0-4, 0-9) who are winless in nine tries
this season. After winning two straight games, SPU dropped the
third before fending off a rally by SMC in the third game.
The Falcons hit .202 as a team and held the
Saints to a .148 hitting mark. Kathleen Monda (So., Woodinville,
Wa./Washington State) led the Falcons for the second straight
games in blocks with four.
SPU returns home next weekend for matches
against Alaska Fairbanks on Friday and Anchorage on Saturday. Both
matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Brougham Pavilion.
