ELLENSBURG, WA. (Sept. 20) Middle hitter
Monica Herrera (Jr., Lima, Peru/Mercy College) slammed 16 kills
and recorded a .290 hitting percentage as the Seattle Pacific
volleyball team fell to Central Washington University 28-30,
30-22, 30-27, 30-24 Friday night at Nicholson Pavilion in
Ellensburg.
The Falcons (0-2, 1-8) surprised the favored
Wildcats (3-0, 5-5) with a game one victory. It was not long,
however, before Central stormed back to win the final three games,
despite .235 and .300 hitting percentages by the Falcons in games
two and three. SPU struggled at the service line, recording 11
errors, while the Wildcats slammed as many aces.
SPU recorded a season-high .232 hitting
percentage while Central recorded a .248 mark. The Falcons
recorded 62 kills, with Andrea Pennington (Jr., Bellingham/Whatcom
CC) and Chelsey Myers (Fr., Minden, Nv./Douglas) joining Herrera
in double figures with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Kathleen
Monda (So., Woodinville, Wa./Washington State) led the Falcons
with five kills and Katy Higgins (Jr., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond)
recorded a season-high 53 assists.
The Falcons travel to Lacey tomorrow night,
Sept. 21, for a GNAC match against Saint Martins. The match
is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
