Falcons Fall Victim to Central Washington Volleyball Comeback
September 20, 2002

ELLENSBURG, WA. (Sept. 20) Middle hitter Monica Herrera (Jr., Lima, Peru/Mercy College) slammed 16 kills and recorded a .290 hitting percentage as the Seattle Pacific volleyball team fell to Central Washington University 28-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-24 Friday night at Nicholson Pavilion in Ellensburg.

The Falcons (0-2, 1-8) surprised the favored Wildcats (3-0, 5-5) with a game one victory. It was not long, however, before Central stormed back to win the final three games, despite .235 and .300 hitting percentages by the Falcons in games two and three. SPU struggled at the service line, recording 11 errors, while the Wildcats slammed as many aces.

SPU recorded a season-high .232 hitting percentage while Central recorded a .248 mark. The Falcons recorded 62 kills, with Andrea Pennington (Jr., Bellingham/Whatcom CC) and Chelsey Myers (Fr., Minden, Nv./Douglas) joining Herrera in double figures with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Kathleen Monda (So., Woodinville, Wa./Washington State) led the Falcons with five kills and Katy Higgins (Jr., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond) recorded a season-high 53 assists.

The Falcons travel to Lacey tomorrow night, Sept. 21, for a GNAC match against Saint Martin’s. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
