SEATTLE (Sept. 16) - Posting its first shutout
of the season, Seattle Pacific University got goals from
substitutes Michelle Sanders and Allison Teague for a 2-0 win over
previously unbeaten Notre Dame de Namur (Ca.) in a nonconference
women's soccer game Monday at Interbay Stadium.
The Falcons (2-3-1) won their second game in a
row at home and are now 7-2 at Interbay in the program's brief
two-year existence.
Sanders (So., Centralia, Wa.) opened the
scoring in the 26th minute.
Less than five minutes after entering the
match, she cracked a first-time 18-yard shot into the roof of the
net following a backpass from Megan Lienhard (Fr., Everett,
Wa./Cascade). Katy Nydam (Fr., Oak Harbor, Wa.) was also credited
with an assist.
Lienhard also set-up the second score, serving
a long left-wing cross through the goalmouth which Teague (Fr.,
Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian) finished at point-blank range at
the far post.
It was the first goal of the season for both
Sanders and Teague. Lienhard now has three assists.
Seattle Pacific dominated play, finishing with
a 13-3 advantage in shots. Goalkeepers Jennifer Hull (So., Eugene,
Or.), the starter, and Erin Pierce (Fr., Milwaukie, Or.) combined
to make three easy saves. The Argonauts, ranked 20th among NAIA
teams, fell to 4-1-1.
SPU continues its three-game home stand
Saturday when it hosts Northwest Nazarene in a Great Northwest
Athletic Conference game at 7.
