Nydam and Lovejoy Score As SPU Women Tie San Francisco State 2-2
September 4, 2002

SAN FRANCISCO (Sept. 4)-Up 2-1 behind goals by Shannon Lovejoy and Katy Nydam with no time left on the game clock, Seattle Pacific University could not hold on for an upset but earned a 2-2 tie with West Region powerhouse San Francisco State in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Cox Stadium.

San Francisco's Alanna Bailey hit both goals for the home team, including the equalizer during injury time (89:07). The clock read 0:00 as the head official was counting down official time.

Lovejoy (Fr., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep) and Nydam (Fr., Oak Harbor, Wa.) scored Seattle Pacific's first and second goals of 2002, respectively.

Lovejoy's strike came in the first half (23:32) as Allison Teague (Fr., Redmond, Wa./Bellevue Christian) lofted a cross in from the right side. Lovejoy headed the ball past San Francisco keeper Kelly Hoover.

Bailey followed Lovejoy's goal fifteen minutes later (38:53). The teams went into the locker room at intermission tied, 1-1.

Nydam struck what SPU hoped would be the game winner to start the second half (47:25). From the left side of the field, Megan Lienhard (Fr., Everett, Wa./Cascade) curled a Falcon corner kick into play to an open Michelle Everson (Fr., Tacoma, Wa./Curtis). Everson knocked the ball to teammate Nydam who fired a rocket to the upper left post.

Overall, head coach Bobby Bruch was pleased with his squad's showing.

"We're disappointed we didn't win, but we played awesome. I thought we did a good job of holding possession of the ball in the first half. This is only our second game together and we're getting to know each other better."

Seattle Pacific keepers Erin Pierce and Jennifer Hull split time in the net, saving five balls between them.

Seattle Pacific (0-1-1) will wrap up a three game road trip as it travels to Humboldt State for Saturday evening's Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00PM.
