SEATTLE (May 16) -- Jarrett Mentink has been
named as Seattle Pacific University's new full-time assistant
coach for men's basketball, effective June 10, said head coach
Jeff Hironaka.
Mentink, 33, previously had served as a
part-time assistant at SPU from 1995-97 and again this past
season. Currently an assistant professor in the Seattle Pacific
physical education department, he will continue teaching classes
for through the end of the quarter before assuming his new post.
From 1997-2001 Mentink attended Washington
State University, where he earned both a master's in athletic
administration in 1998 and doctorate degree in higher education in
2001.
Before coming to the Falcons, he had served as
assistant at Tacoma Community College (1994-95) and Federal Way's
Decatur High School (1991-94). He also was an assistant for the
Washington state BCI team.
Mentink played basketball and baseball while a
student at Decatur. He earned his bachelors degree from the
University of Washington in 1993.
Hironaka replaced Ken Bone as head coach Apr.
