SEATTLE (May 13) -- Nathanael Castle and Laura
Widman of Seattle Pacific University were selected as male and
female track & field athletes of the week in the Great
Northwest Athletic Conference following season-best performances
at the Foreman Invitational.
Castle (Sr., Gooding, Id.) cut 2.8 seconds off
his NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying mark in the
1500 meters, finishing fifth in a career-best time of 3:50.44. It
also matched the No. 2 time in SPU history.
Widman (Jr., Colfax, Wa.) won the heptathlon
and posted a provisional national qualifying mark in the long jump
in the process. Her winning score of 5004 points is the fifth-best
mark nationally and she bettered the national standard with a GNAC
season-best mark of 19-0 3/4 in the long jump.
The NCAA Championships are May 23-25 in San
Angelo, Tx.
