SEATTLE (May 3) -- Andrea Pennington, an
all-league player for Whatcom Community College, has signed a
national letter of intent to play volleyball at Seattle Pacific
University.
Pennington, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, led
Whatcom to a 16-5 record and second-place finish in the North
Division of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community
Colleges (NWAACC). She topped the Orcas in both kills and digs
during her sophomore season.
At Bellingham High School, Pennington made
first team all-Northwest League as a junior and senior. The
Raiders went to the district playoffs each of her final three
years (1996-98). She also lettered in three other sports:
basketball, track & field and softball. As a senior in track
she was district and league champion in the javelin and later
finished fourth in the state.
Originally Pennington attended Central
Washington University, competing one season in the javelin before
transferring to Whatcom. There she lettered two years in
volleyball and one in basketball.
Seattle Pacific is coming off a 20-8 record and
its second straight trip to the NCAA Division II tournament under
Coach Kellie Ryan.
