ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Apr. 20) -- Sarah Kraybill
of Seattle Pacific University won for the first time this season
at 800 meters and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying time in
the process at the Spike Arlt Invitational track & field meet
Saturday.
Also for the Falcons, Dionna Anderson (Sr.,
Lynnwood, Wa./Edmonds-Woodway) picked up her fourth straight
victory in the shot put and Jawea Harder (Sr., Port Townsend, Wa.)
improved her qualifying mark in the 400 hurdles. Nathanael Castle
(Sr., Gooding, Id.) just missed the qualifying cutoff but won the
men's 800 in a personal-best 1 minute, 53.35 seconds.
Kraybill (Jr., Seattle, Wa./Ballard) passed
Central Washington's Alicen Maier with about 200 meters to go and
pulled away to take first place in 2 minutes, 13.86 seconds, her
best time as a collegian. Maier was runner-up in 2:14.91. Kraybill
becomes the women's 10th qualifier for the Division II
championships next month.
Harder earned her first win in two years with a
strong final 100 meters. Her time of 61.29 seconds was a PR by
more than a second and an improvement of 1.44 seconds over her
initial qualifying time.
Anderson remained unbeaten in April with a
throw of 44 feet, 7 inches--more than seven feet better than the
nearest competitor.
The Falcons were without their heptathletes,
who competed in California Friday, and middle distance star Rachel
Ross and pole vaulter Ally Studer took the week off.
Castle held off Pacific Lutheran's Mike Houston
by a margin of just 0.09 seconds for his first metric half-mile
win of the season. Neal Fryett (Sr., Pullman, Wa./Logos) was third
in a season-best 1:55.62. In the 1500, Tim LeCount (Fr., Battle
Ground, Wa.) dropped his PR by 8 seconds to 3:56.8 to take second
to Nathan Carlson of Saint Martin's (3:54.5).
Both 1600 relays placed first, the men in
3:24.21 and the women in 4:00.35.
Next Saturday a select group of athletes will
compete at the Oregon Invitational in Eugene. |
