AZUSA, Calif. (Apr. 19) -- Seattle Pacific
University's Stephanie Huffman finished with a season-best
heptathlon score of 5005 points to take fourth place in the
California Invitational track & field meet Friday.
Huffman (Sr., Brush Prairie, Wa./Prairie) moved
up two places during the second day of the seven-event
competition, which was won by Idaho State's Jackie Poulson with
5218 points. Huffman began with a long jump of 18 feet, 10 3/4
inches and a javelin throw of 134-2. She ran the 800 meters in 2
minutes, 36.97 seconds.
Her total score was an improvement of 72 points
over her initial qualifying score last month, and it was the No. 4
mark in the nation. It also was Huffman's best outing since
scoring 5121 to take second place at the 1999 NCAA Division II
Championships. The Falcons' Leah Wiiest (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Deer
Park) finished 15th with 4400 points. She had scored 4601 earlier
in the season. Wiiest's best marks were a long jump of 17-6 1/2
and a PR of 2:23.54 in the 800.
Teammates Laura Widman (Jr., Colfax, Wa.) was
17th with 4339 and Jennifer Pyeatt (So., Graham, Wa./Bethel) was
21st with 4086.
