SEATTLE (Mar. 25) -- Alison Siegel-McAfee of
Seattle Pacific University has earned an at-large berth as an
all-arounder for the NCAA West Regional gymnastics meet Apr. 6 in
Corvallis, Ore.
Siegel-McAfee (Sr., Oakland, Ca./Redwood
Christian), one of three all-arounders from non-qualifying teams,
will participate in the Division I meet for the second year in a
row. She was selected for vault as a junior. In addition to
Siegel-McAfee, Kristen Strid (Jr., Kingsburg, Ca./Kingsburg Joint
Union) is an alternate for balance beam.
Oregon State, the host, is joined in the
six-team field by top-seeded Utah, Oklahoma, Southern Utah,
Washington and Boise State. The top two teams and the top two
all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) will
receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships in
Tuscaloosa, Alabama, April 18-20. In addition, the event winners
at the regional championships will advance to the national
championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a
qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
At the regional, Siegel-McAfee will rotate with
OSU. The other at-large all-arounders are Deni Albright of San
Jose State and My-Lan Dodd of California.
The Falcons will return to competition as a
team Apr. 11-13 at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships in
Springfield, Mass.
