LONG BEACH, Calif. (Mar. 16) -- Rachel Ross of
Seattle Pacific University raced to her 25th career
middle-distance title Saturday, winning the 800 meters at the Long
Beach Classic.
Ross (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.), in an NCAA Division
II provisional qualifying time of 2 minutes, 13.02 seconds, won
her fourth straight regular season 800 dating back to last season.
Her string of six outdoor wins in a row was snapped by a
third-place finish in the 1500 in 4:38.10.
The Falcons also got a second-place effort from
Stephanie Huffman (Sr., Brush Prairie, Wa./Prairie) in the javelin
(135-7) and Ally Studer (So., Redmond, Wa./Redmond) in the pole
vault (11-0). taking third were Dionna Anderson (Sr., Lynnwood,
Wa./Edmonds-Woodway) in the shot put (43-6) and Jawea Harder (Sr.,
Port Townsend, Wa.) in the 400 hurdles (1:04.66).
Highlights for the SPU men included Nathanel
Castle running fourth in the 1500 (unofficial time of 3:58.0) and
Paul Mach (So., Seattle, Wa./King's), whose time of 54.54 seconds
in the 400 hurdles was both a PR and No. 3 all-time.
Huffman and three teammates will compete in the
Point Loma multiple event meet Thursday and the rest of the travel
squad resumes action Saturday at the Aztec Invitational in San
Diego.
