Corvallis (Mar. 16)- Alison Siegel-McAfee
placed 8th in the all-around competition as she led the Falcons to
a strong finish in a four-way womens gymnastics meet between
Michigan, Michigan State, Seattle Pacific and host team Oregon
State at the Shanico Inn-vitational in Corvallis held at Gill
Coliseum. The meet will be aired Sunday (Mar. 17) at 12 noon and
again Mar. 23 at 10 a.m. on Fox Sports Net Northwest.
University of Michigan won the meet with a
196.700, followed by Oregon State (196.675) and Michigan State
(195.050). Seattle finished fourth with a 191.950.
The first event for the Falcons was beam, which
they hit for a solid 47.925. All five counting scores were 9.475
or higher, with the top score for Seattle coming from Alison
Siegel-McAfee (Sr., Oakland, Ca./Redwood Christian), who earned a
9.725. Teammate Annastasia Ahr (So., Chelan, Wa./Blessed Hope
Academy) was not far behind with a score of 9.625, followed by
Kristen Strid (Jr., Kingsburg, Ca./Kingsburg) who extended her
sticking streak to 10 consecutive meets. Strid earned a 9.757.
Annie Campbell of OSU won the event with a 9.925.
Freshman Corrie McDaniel (Fr., Lawrence,
Ks./Lawrence) was the highest scoring Falcon on the floor, with a
9.825. McDaniel currently holds SPUs second highest floor
score of all time. Ahr and Siegel-McAfee tied with identical
scores of 9.775. The squad earned a total of 48.750, which marks
the eighth time this season that SPU has earned a 48.000 or better
on this event.
Siegel-McAfee, who is currently ranked No. 1 in
USA Gymnastics on vault, was the team leader on the event, scoring
a 9.600. Ahr was the next highest scoring Falcon with a 9.550,
which ties her highest score of the season. Despite these strong
efforts, Seattle had to count a 9.025 into their event score, and
the team score, 47.125, was the second lowest of the year.
Siegel-McAfee scored a 9.725 on bars as the
Falcons were off to a strong finish for the night. With the help
of Strid who scored a 9.675, Jennifer Christman (So., Fairfield,
Ca./Benicia) with a 9.675, and Kari Kelly (Fr., Yakima,
Wa./Eisenhower) who scored a 9.600, Seattle earned their second
highest bar total of the season. Elise Ray of University of
Michigan won the event with a near perfect 9.950.
Next week, the Falcons host two home meets
against Alaska Anchorage on March 21 and 23 both beginning at
7:30.
