March 12, 2002

SEATTLE (Mar. 12) -- Gig Harbor's Andy Willis became the first men's soccer recruit to sign a national letter of intent with Seattle Pacific University for next fall.

Willis is a two-time all-Narrows League selection for Gig Harbor, and led the Tides with 12 goal as a junior. Gig Harbor made the state 4A playoffs.

Willis, a 6-foot forward, scored 38 goals in 42 games for FC United of the state premier league. United finished fourth in the 2001 fall season and advanced to the state cup final, held last weekend.

Seattle Pacific, coached by Cliff McCrath, finished its 2001 fall season at 10-8-1 and nine starters are expected to return.
