March 8, 2002

Seattle (Mar. 8)- Alison Siegel-McAfee placed second in the all-around competition as she led the Falcons to a strong finish in a women’s gymnastics meet between Seattle Pacific University and Stanford in Maples Pavilion on Friday night.

Stanford won the meet with a 195.800, followed by Seattle with a 192.450.

Siegel-McAfee (Sr., Oakland, Ca./Redwood Christian) continues to be a major force for Seattle. Competing in her home state, she was the highest scoring Falcon in two events, including vault, where SPU earned a total of 47.625 points. Siegel-McAfee, who is currently ranked No 1 in USA Gymnastics, placed sixth with a score of 9.675. Jennifer Christman (So., Fairfield, Ca./Benicia) hit for a 9.600, enough for a tie with Lise Leveille of Stanford for seventh.

Freshman Corrie McDaniel (Fr., Lawrence, Ks./Lawrence) was the highest placing Falcon on bars, with a total of 9.750, which ties her career best score. Siegel-McAfee was the next highest placer, with a 9.600. Christman also gave a strong performance and scored 9.575.

Kristen Strid (Jr., Kingsburg, Ca./Kingsburg), who has stayed on the beam in each of the previous eight meets this season, continued to dominate in SPU’s beam team as she extended her sticking streak to nine meets. She tied for sixth with Siegel-McAfee with a score of 9.700. Add in season high scores for Courtney Stump (Sr., Poulsbo, Wa./Charles Wright) and Rachael Anderson (Jr., Yakima, Wa./West Valley) with scores of 9.675 and 9.625 respectively, and the combined effort gave SPU a beam total of 48.450, their highest event total this year. The team score was enough to defeat the Cardinals, who earned 48.375.

Seattle scored a 48.575 on floor, marking the seventh meet in a row where they exceeded the 48.000 mark. Stump was the highest scoring Falcon with a 9.700, followed by Siegel-McAfee with a 9.675. Elisabeth Kingsley (Fr., Harrison, Ga.) and Anderson tied with a 9.650.
