SAN BERNARDINO -- Nick Johnson scored 27 points
and two other Falcons were in double figures Thursday night as
Seattle Pacific University defeated BYU-Hawaii, 82-57, in the
first round of the NCAA Division II Men's West Regional at Cal
State, San Bernardino.
The Falcons shot 57 percent from the floor
against the Seasiders with Johnson hitting eight of 12 field goal
attempts and converting nine of 10 free throws to pace the attack.
Top scorer Yusef Aziz had 14 points on seven of 12 shooting while
center Eric Sandrin poured in 15 points on seven of 11 from the
field.
The third-seeded Falcons led 41-24 at the half
as they shot 60 percent against a porous BYU-Hawaii defense.
The Seasiders shot just 35 percent from the
field (21 of 60) . Alexus Foyle, the leading scorer in the Pacific
West Conference, had 19 points on eight of 14 from the field.
Scott Salisbury chipped in 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for
yet another double-double. He averaged a double-double in points
and rebounds for the season.
The Falcons, 24-4, advance to the semifinals on
Friday night to face No. 2 seed Humboldt State (24-3), a team they
split 1-1 with during the regular season and finished as co-champs
of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
