SEATTLE (Mar. 4) -- Seattle Pacific University
center Kelley Berglund (Jr., 6-3, Port Angeles, Wa./Washington
State) has been voted the Great Northwest Athletic Conference
Newcomer of the Year and a runner-up for player of the year in a
poll of league coaches.
Berglund, also a first team all-GNAC choice,
averages 15.7 points while shooting 56 percent from the field. She
was runner-up to Central Washington's Rose Shaw for player of the
year. Kristin Poe (So., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.), the SPU leader in
rebounds (8.2) and steals (2.3), made the GNAC second team.
Seattle Pacific (22-5), ranked No. 7 in the
nation, begins NCAA Division II West Regional play Thursday night
in Pomona when they face Cal State Bakersfield.
