UCLA Wins Three-Way Gymnastics Meet at Washington
March 1, 2002

Seattle (Mar.1)- Alison Siegel-McAfee scored above a 9.65 on each event as she made her way to a third place finish in the all-around competition in a three-way women’s gymnastics meet between Seattle Pacific University, the University of Washington and UCLA at the Bank of America Arena in Seattle on Friday night.

UCLA won the meet with a 197.050, followed by the Huskies with total of 195.000. Seattle Pacific finished third with a 191.775.

Siegel-McAfee (Sr., Oakland, Ca./Redwood Christian) was the top finisher for the Falcons on three of the four events. Her impressive total was her highest of the season, and gives her the fourth highest all-around score in SPU’s all-time top individual scores. She already holds four of the top ten places, including the number one spot.

Jennifer Christman (So., Fairfield, Ca./Benicia) finished with a 9.750 on bars, just ahead of teammates Siegel-McAfee and Kristen Strid (Jr., Kingsburg, Ca./Kingsburg) who earned identical scores of 9.650. Freshman standout Corrie McDaniel (Fr., Lawrence, Ks./Lawrence) was close behind, with a 9.600. UCLA’s Jamie Dantzcher, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team, won the event with a near perfect 9.975.

Vault was a similar Christman/Siegel-McAfee story. Siegel-McAfee landed a solid vault for a score of 9.725, just one place above Christman, who scored a season high of 9.650. Kari Kelly (Fr., Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) was SPU’s next highest finisher on the event, with a 9.575. The combined effort was enough to give the Falcons a 47.900 on vault, their highest team score on the event thus far in the season. Emily Pritchard of the UW, the eventual all-around winner, took top honors on the event with a 9.950.

The Falcons scored only 47.000 beam, their lowest total on the event this season. Strid put forth another strong performance, as she continued her season-long sticking streak. She scored a 9.550, as did Annastasia Ahr (So., Chelan, Wa./Blessed Hope Academy).

Siegel-McAfee took her highest finish of the night on floor, where she tied for fourth with the Washington’s Amy Metcalf with a score of 9.850.

SPU travels to Stanford and to UC Davis for meets on March 8 and March 9.
