Falcons' Anderson Sends Shot to 7th-Best Mark in Nation

MOSCOW, Id. (Feb. 16) -- Dionna Anderson of Seattle Pacific University shattered her previous best throw by nearly two feet in winning the shot put at the Vandal Indoor Saturday at the Kibbie Dome.

Anderson (Sr., Lynnwood, Wa./Edmonds-Woodway) won with a mark of 45 feet, 3 3/4 inches--the seventh-best in NCAA Division II this season. It was more than two feet beyond her previous personal best of 43-3 1/4. Washington's Kamika Gay was runner-up with a throw of 44-9.

Finishing second in the 800-meter run was Rachel Ross (Sr., Kennewick, Wa.), in a provisional qualifying time of 2 minutes, 13.50 seconds. The winner was Williams Tamika of Nike in 2:13.16.

Jennifer Pyeatt (So., Graham, Wa./Bethel) finished fourth in open shot put and 55 hurdles.

The other placement for the Falcons was Stephanie Huffman (Sr., Brush Prairie, Wa./Prairie) who was sixth in the high jump at 5-3. She also long-jumped 18-2, finishing just behind her younger sister. Chelsea Huffman of Idaho took second at 18-5.

Seattle Pacific takes next week off before resuming action Mar. 2 at the Washington Indoor/Outdoor.
