No. 12 Falcons Women Overcome Halftime Deficit, Topple Saints
February 2, 2002

SEATTLE (Feb. 2) -- Kristin Poe (So., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa./Enumclaw) scored 17 points and hauled in a career-high 22 rebounds to lead the Seattle Pacific University women's basketball past Saint Martin's College 85-67 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Brougham Pavilion.

SPU is currently ranked No. 12 in the NCAA Division II ESPN/USA Today national poll and No. 6 in West Region.

The Falcons (8-3, 16-4) were on the bad side of 6-0 Saint Martin's (3-8, 8-11) run before rallying to take their first lead of the game at 12:43. A pair of free-throws by Trisha Hermanson (Fr., 5-6, Buckley, Wa./White River) capped a 12-6 SPU run that gave the Falcons their biggest lead of the half at eight points with just under four minutes remaining. The Saints responded with a 12-2 run to finish the half, heading into the locker room with a narrow two-point edge.

It took SPU less than five minutes to retake the lead for good on a jumper by Poe in the beginning of the second half. The Falcons offense shot 60 percent in the half and scored a season-high 53 points led by 14 from Kelley Berglund (Jr., 6-3, Port Angeles, Wa./Washington State) and 11 by Emily Faurholt (Fr., 5-11, Kennewick, Wa./Kennewick).

Poe's career-high 22 rebounds ties the mark set by Tosca Lindberg in 1990, which is good for second-most in SPU history. Faurholt finished with a game-high 19 points, followed by Poe's 17. Berglund and Stephanie Urrutia (Jr., 5-9, Sunnyside, Wa./Sunnyside) joined the pair in double-figures with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Poe also had a game-high four steals while Kerie Hughes (Jr., 5-6, Mt. Vernon, Wa./Mt. Vernon) finished with a game-high six assists.

Alana Erickson paced the Saints with 12 points.

The Falcons travel to Bellingham next Thursday, Feb. 7, to play first-place Western Washington. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
