Seattle (Feb. 2)- A women's gymnastics competition between Seattle Pacific University and San Jose State completed the homecoming triple-header of athletic events at Brougham Pavilion. Despite the efforts of senior Alison Siegel-McAfee who finished 2nd on vault and 2nd in the all-around competition, the Falcons were defeated by the Spartans by a score of 190.675 to 189.025. The Spartans won all three of the matchups against the Falcons last season.

Dani Albright of San Jose State won vault and floor as well as the all-around competition. She placed 2nd on bars and beam with respective scores of 9.70 and 9.80.

The Falcons started strong on vault, leading the competition after one event. Three gymnasts had personal bests, including Elisabeth Kinglsey (Fr., Southlake, Tx.), Annastasia Ahr (So., Chelan, Wa), and Corrie McDaniel (Fr., Lawrence. Ks.). Albright won the event with an 9.850.

Siegel-McAfee was SPU's top placer on bars with a score of 9.65. Behind her finished teammates Kristen Strid (So., Kinsgburg, Ca.) and McDaniel with identical scores of 9.550. Shirla Choy of SJSU won the event with a 9.750.

Albright tied with Siegel-McAfee for top honors on the beam, with scores of 9.800. Kim Cianci of San Jose scored 9.725, enough for 3rd place on the event.

Floor was SPU's strongest event, with a team score of 48.400. McDaniel finished 3rd, with a personal best of 9.825, followed by Annastasia Ahr's (So., Chelan, Wa.) career high of 9.800. All five of SPU's counting scores were above the 9.55 mark. The winner of the event, Albright, scored a near-perfect 9.900.

SPU and SJSU meet again next week (Feb. 8th) in San Jose.
