Alison Siegel-McAfee (Sr., Oakland, Ca./Redwood
Christian) won the all-around competition as the SPU Falcons fell
to the California Golden Bears at Brougham Pavilion Friday night.
The Falcons (2-1) finished with a score of
187.30, over 3 points below last week's score when they defeated
both UC Davis and Wisconsin-Stout. The Bears continued their
winning streak against SPU, winning fifteen of the last sixteen
meetings.
Siegel-McAffee scored a personal best of 9.78
on the bars, helping SPU take top honors in that event by a margin
of .125 points. Alison, the school record holder on vault and
winner in that event five out of six of the last home meets, was
edged out of first by .025 by UC Berkley's Lauren Shipp.
Shipp also won the beam competition with a
score of 9.725.
The Falcons struggled on beam, counting three
falls on that event. This is sharp contrast to last meet when they
had no falls.
On their last even of the night, the SPU floor
competitors finished ahead of the California squad with a score of
47.225. Siegel-McAfee also took top honors in that event,
delighting the audience with her personal best score of 9.85.
SPU is home again Feb. 2 to host San Jose
State.
