SEATTLE (Jan. 23) -- Following a couple home
wins, the Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team
bounced back to No. 8 in this week's NCAA Division II poll.
The Falcons (6-2, 14-3) moved up two spots
after wins over Western Oregon and Humboldt State last week. They
have been as high as No. 6 earlier this season. SPU returns to
action Saturday at Central Washington.
Cal Poly Pomona, one of three teams to defeat
SPU this season, remained at No. 1 nationally. Western Washington
is the only other Great Northwest Athletic Conference school
appearing in the rankings, at No. 16.
Regionally, Seattle Pacific rose to No. 4,
behind Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Bakersfield and Montana State
Billings. Western Washington, UC Davis, Sonoma State and Central
round out the top eight.
In the newest men's regional rankings, Seattle
Pacific (15-1) is second in the West to Cal State San Bernardino.
Humboldt State, which the Falcons face in Arcata, Ca., Thursday
night, is No. 3, followed by Hawaii Hilo, Cal State Bakersfield,
Montana State Billings and Western Washington.
