No. 9 Seattle Pacific Wins Record 15th Straight, 95-64, over Anchorage
January 19, 2002

SEATTLE (Jan. 19) -- Brannon Stone scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half and Yusef Aziz finished with 17 as 9th-ranked Seattle Pacific University established a new record for consecutive victories with its 15th straight, 95-64 over Alaska Anchorage in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference basketball game at Brougham Pavilion Saturday night.

The Falcons, now atop the conference at 7-0 and 15-1 overall, shot a season-high 60 percent, including 10 of 17 3-pointers. They have won 28 of their last 30 home conference games. The previous mark for consecutive wins was 14 set in the 1965-66 season.

Maurice Cato (Jr., 6-0, Fairfield, Ca.) also had 14 points, Nick Johnson (Sr., 6-3, Burlington, Wa./Burlington-Edison) 12 and Eric Sandrin (Sr., 6-10, Bothell, Wa./Shorecrest) 10 for Seattle Pacific, which led by as many as 36 in the second half. Sandrin's eight rebounds helped SPU finish with a 38-31 advantage on the boards.

Alaska Anchorage's Peter Bullock led all players with 18 points and 10 boards. The Seawolves shot just 36 percent for the game in dropping to 4-3 and 4-12.

Stone (Sr., 6-7, Oak Harbor, Wa.) took only seven shots, making five, including 4-6 treys. He also had six assists. Aziz (Jr., 6-4, Seattle, Wa./Foster-Highline CC).

Playing its fourth straight game on the road, Anchorage managed to stay with Seattle Pacific only for the first few minutes. At that point Stone struck with back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite a 16-4 charge. A bigger 22-4 burst over the final nine minutes of the period buried the Seawolves in a 26-point hole at halftime. Cato's off-balance trey from the left corner came just before the buzzer.

The 19 points was the fewest by a Falcon opponent during the season and UAA hit just six of 21 shots from the floor while committing nine turnovers.

Meanwhile, SPU sizzled, connecting on 20 of 31 field goals.

SPU, which has not been beaten since an opening night, 68-67 loss to Indianapolis, now plays seven of its next nine on the road, beginning Thursday and 10th-ranked Humboldt State.
