Falcon Women Drop But Remain in Top 10
January 15, 2002

SEATTLE (Jan. 15) -- Despite a loss in its most recent outing, Seattle Pacific University remained in the top 10 of NCAA Division II women's basketball teams in this week's USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.

The Falcons (12-3) dropped four places to No. 10, making Seattle Pacific the only Div. II athletic program with both its men's and women's teams ranked among the top 10 nationally. SPU was No. 9 in the men's poll released Jan. 14.

After playing eight of the last 10 games on the road, the women's team returns home to host Western Oregon Thursday at 5:30 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game in Brougham Pavilion. The only other ranked GNAC team is Western Washington at No. 20.

Cal Poly Pomona moved back to No. 1 this week. The Broncos, the defending NCAA champion, defeated SPU 76-71 Dec. 28 in Pomona.
