ANCHORAGE, ALASKA. (Jan 10) -- Kelley Berglund
(Fr., Port Angeles, Wa./Washington State) scored a career-high 33
points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Seattle Pacific
University women's basketball past Alaska-Anchorage University
87-55 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup Thursday at
the UAA Sports Center. SPU is currently ranked No. 6 in the NCAA
Division II ESPN/USA Today national poll and No. 5 in West Region.
The Falcons (12-2, 4-1) started the game 0-2 to
the Seawolves (4-10, 0-5), but that is as close as UAA would come
for the rest of the night. Buoyed by 17 first half points from
Berglund, SPU led by as many as 16 points before entering the half
up by 14. The second half featured more of the same pressure
defense and hot shooting by the Falcons who's lead reached 34
points at the 3:34 and 2:08 marks. The Falcons defense forced 26
turnovers and picked up 15 steals.
A perfect 14-for-14 shooting night from the
floor helped Berglund notch her third double-double of the season.
She also finished five-for-six from behind the free-throw line.
Michelle Beaumont (Fr.,5-11, Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) also finished
with a career-high 17 points in just 15 minutes of play. Kristin

nine assists.
Seattle Pacific was without its two starting
guards, juniors Kerie Hughes (Jr., 5-6, Mount Vernon, Wa.) and
Stephanie Urrutia (Jr., 5-9, Sunnyside, Wa.). Both had been
suspended for one game for breaching team rules, said Coach Gordy
Presnell. They are on the trip and are expected to play in
Fairbanks Saturday.
Bell Jordan paced the Seawolves with 22 points.
The Falcons travel to Alaska-Fairbanks
