SEATTLE (Jan. 10) -- Two teams with lengthy win
streaks will collide Saturday night when Seattle Pacific
University hosts Western Washington in high-stakes midseason men's
basketball game at Brougham Pavilion.
Less than 100 reserved seats remain but there
are still over 900 general admission tickets available for the 7
o'clock tip. Pavilion ticket windows will open at 6 p.m. Saturday.
SPU and Western are currently tied atop the
Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings at 4-0 and each
program has claimed conference and regional crowns en route to
NCAA Division II Final Four appearances the past two seasons.
"It's a huge game for both teams
because we're tied for first and more than likely we'll both be
fighting for an NCAA tournament berth in another month or so,"
said SPU Coach Ken Bone.
"Western Washington is strong at
all positions and a high-powered scoring team, and we're probably
best on the defensive end of the floor at this point in the
season," said Bone. "They've always been good, close
games and I don't expect anything less this time around."
For the Falcons (12-1), who have reeled off 12
consecutive wins to attain a No. 10 national ranking, this
presents perhaps the biggest test of the season to date, although
they defeated then No. 8 Henderson State (Ar.) just before
Christmas. The school record for consecutive victories is 14, set
in 1965-66.
Meanwhile, the Vikings (10-3) bring a 15-game
conference winning skein south. They ended a four-year drought in
the series by sweeping SPU last season. Western has won nine of
its last 10 games overall, with the sole loss by one point to
top-ranked Northeastern State (Ok.) last month.
The two teams will meet again in Bellingham
