LAS VEGAS (Dec. 16) - Brannon Stone paced
hot-shooting Seattle Pacific University with 18 points and eight
rebounds as the Falcons rolled to their eighth straight win, 76-63
over Ashland (Oh.) Sunday night in the final game of the High
Desert Classic.
Eric Sandrin (Sr., 6-10, Bothell,
Wa./Shorecrest) and Yusef Aziz (Jr., 6-4, Seattle,
Wa./Foster-Highline CC) added 15 points apiece for 15th-ranked SPU
(8-1), which shot a season-best 57 percent (30-53) from the field.
The starting frontline of Stone (Sr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.),
Sandrin and Aziz totaled 48 points, 20 rebounds and made 20-33
field goals.
Isaac Kincaid topped Ashland (5-3) with 25
points but the Eagles managed to make only 34 percent from the
field and were out-rebounded 40-30.
Stone connected on four of six 3-pointers and
also had four assists and two blocked shots. Nick Johnson (Sr.,
6-3, Burlington, Wa./Burlington-Edison) added 12 points, six from
outside the arc.
The Falcons went in front early, led by 15 at
intermission and never allowed Ashland to pull closer than 15 in
the second half.
Seattle Pacific stretched the Ashland defense,
making 7 of 12 treys and also was effective inside, out-scoring
the Eagles 32-22 in the paint. SPU's defense has held eight of
nine opponents under 69 points.
The Falcons resume play Dec. 28 when they host
the Oak Harbor Freight Lines Holiday Classic.
