Aziz Leads Balanced Attack as Falcons Roll to 4th Straight Win
December 1, 2001

SEATTLE (Dec. 1) -- Yusef Aziz scored 15 points and snared eight rebounds as 16th-ranked Seattle Pacific University rolled to its fourth straight win, 86-56 over Hawaii Pacific in a nonconference men's basketball game Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (4-1) , who blew open the game early in the second half, had five players in double figures, including Maurice Cato (Jr., 6-0, Fairfiled, Ca.) with 12, plus Brannon Stone (Sr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.) and Eric Sandrin (Sr., 6-10, Bothell, Wa./Shorecrest) with 11 apiece. They have won 16 consecutive December games dating back to 1998.

The Sea Warriors (3-3) were paced by the 24 points of Nick Spajic, 16 of those coming in the first half. Spajic connected on five treys, but shot just 3-9 in the second period.

Seattle Pacific took the lead for good midway through the opening period, led by 13 at the break and then 13-2 run to begin the second half. Aziz (Jr., 6-4, Seattle, Wa./Foster-Highline CC) capped the spree with a tip-in for a 54-30 advantage. Hawaii Pacific, which shot only 34 percent (21-61) from the field, never got closer than 21 the rest of the way.

The Falcons hit a season-best 50 percent (29-58) from the floor, including 9-21 3-pointers. Cato, Nick Johnson (Sr., 6-3, Burlington, Wa./Burlington-Edison) and Jordan Lee (Fr., 6-0, University Place, Wa./Life Christian) each hit twice from beyond the arc. Cato also had three steals as SPU forced 22 HPU turnovers.

A 15-2 burst by Seattle Pacific gave it control going into halftime. Aziz scored the first two baskets of the run which put SPU ahead 27-16.
