SEATTLE (Nov. 10) Leah Wiiest (Sr.,
Spokane, Wa./Deer Park/Cornell) led the Seattle Pacific volleyball
team with 14 kills in a 32-34, 30-28, 30-25, 30-27 loss to Western
Washington University in a season finale conference matchup
Saturday at Brougham Pavilion. WWU is currently ranked No. 23 in
the AVCA national poll and No. 2 in the NCAA West Region; SPU is
ranked No. 5 in the region.
The Falcons (12-6, 20-7) roared out of the
starting gates against the newly-crowned GNAC champion Vikings
(18-0, 23-4), taking the first game in a hard-fought duel. The
momentum swung back in the favor of WWU by the second game and the
Vikings fended off the Falcons for the remainder of the match.
Lesley Kamphouse (Sr., Sumas, Wa./Nooksack
Valley) and Monica Abrahamson (Sr., Spokane, Wa./Rogers) joined
Wiiest in double-figures with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. The
Falcons recorded a season-high 116 digs, led by a season-high 31
from Leilani Kamahoahoa (Sr., Oregon City, Or./Canby).
Shannon Rowland led the Vikings with 15 kills.
The 48-team NCAA tournament bracket will be
announced tomorrow with both WWU and SPU in the running for bids.
