Aziz Helps Falcons Ease to Preseason Win over NW All-Stars
November 9, 2001

SEATTLE (Nov. 9) -- Yusef Aziz scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half and added 10 rebounds as Seattle Pacific University coasted to a 90-68 preseason men's basketball win over the Northwest All-Stars Friday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons, ranked No. 16 in the NCAA Division II preseason poll, also got 13 points from Brannon Stone (Sr., 6-9, Oak Harbor, Wa.) and 10 from Daniel Sandrin (Jr., 6-7, Bothell, Wa./Bothell).

Jim Rainwater, former University of Portland player, led all scorers with 17 for the All-Stars.

Seattle Pacific scored the game's first six points and began to pull away late in the first half on back-to-back 3-pointers by Nick Johnson (Sr., 6-3, Burlington, Wa./Burlington-Edison) and Stone for a 41-27 lead at intermission.

The gap grew to as much as 33 points midway through the second period. Aziz (Jr., 6-4, Seattle, Wa../Foster-Highline CC) scored six straight points at one point and finished 7-13 from the field.

SPU finished with a 52-33 advantage in rebounds and held the All-Stars to 39 percent shooting. Eight players finished with eight or more points.

SPU opens the regular season Friday when it hosts Indianapolis in the first round of the Vitamilk Tip-Off Classic.
