PORTLAND, ORE. (Nov. 8) -- Emily Faurholt (Fr.,
Kennewick, Wa./Kennewick) led the Seattle Pacific University
women's basketball team with 18 points as the Falcons fell to the
University of Portland 84-75 in an exhibition matchup Thursday at
the Chiles Center.
SPU is ranked first in the GNAC preseason
coaches poll, second in the NCAA West Region poll and No. 20 in
the NCAA Division II WBCA/USA Today national poll.
The Falcons (0-1) never led the Pilots (1-0),
but came within one point at 36-35 before the end of the half.
Faurholt shot 8-12 from the field and 2-2 from
the free throw line to lead the Falcons while Michelle Beaumont
(Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) and center Kelley Berglund (Jr.,
Port Angeles, Wa./Washington State) chipped in 15 and 14 points,
respectively.
Berglund led SPU on the boards with nine.
The Pilots were led by sophomore forward
Khalila O'Rielly-Williams who scored 26 points.
The Falcons travel to Spokane Saturday, Nov.
10, for an exhibition matchup against Gonzaga University. The game
is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
